Family’s Dream Truck Destroyed in Sudden Blaze

A beloved Corpus Christi food truck, Elotes El Regio Dos, is fighting to make a comeback after a devastating fire on October 6 destroyed nearly everything the owners had built.

The Corpus Christi food truck, owned by Alfredo and Nichelle Gonzales, was a popular stop for locals visiting the Corpus Christi Trade Center. Regulars lined up for roasted corn, tacos, and aguas frescas — favorites that defined the Corpus Christi food truck.

However, on October 6, a 2:15 p.m. fire destroyed the Gonzales family’s food truck and belongings.

Fortunately, no one was injured. Corpus Christi Assistant Fire Chief Tony Perez said firefighters responded swiftly and extinguished the blaze without incident. Officials later called a fire investigator to determine the cause.

Community Rallies Behind Elotes El Regio Dos

In the wake of the disaster, the Gonzales family turned to their community for support. A close family friend, Ruben Murillo, launched a GoFundMe campaign to help them rebuild their business from the ground up.

“This food truck was our dream and passion, built with love, dedication, and community support,” the family shared.

The post went on to thank everyone who reached out to help. “Your love and support mean more than words can say,” they wrote, highlighting the deep connection between the business and its loyal customers.

By October 9, the GoFundMe had already raised around $1,800 toward its $5,000 goal, with dozens of supporters offering both donations and kind words of encouragement. The family will use the funds to replace equipment, restock, and secure a new trailer.

A Determined Restart in the Same Spot

Despite the loss, the Gonzales family wasted no time in finding a way forward. On October 8, just two days after the fire, they announced on social media that Elotes El Regio Dos would resume serving customers — this time from a borrowed trailer parked at the exact location in the Corpus Christi Trade Center.

Although the menu is now smaller, it still features local favorites like Tosti-Locos, roasted corn cups, aguas frescas, and turkey legs.

The move shows the family’s resilience and determination to keep serving the community that has supported them. For many Corpus Christi residents, the return of familiar flavors symbolizes the enduring spirit of the family.

Neighbors and Patrons Express Support

Customers and fellow vendors have rallied around Elotes El Regio Dos, offering not just donations but also heartfelt words of solidarity. Many fondly recall favorite dishes and how the Gonzales family’s warmth turned customers into friends.

Moreover, longtime patrons have expressed their support online. “I’ve been buying from them for years — their food and their smiles made my weekends,” one customer commented on social media. “We’ll help them get back on their feet.”

Ultimately, community support shows how small businesses become neighborhood pillars built on dedication and hard work.

Hope for a Brighter Future

Although the road to full recovery will take time, the Gonzales family remains optimistic. Indeed, their story stands as a testament to the power of community and perseverance.

Meanwhile, they serve from a temporary setup, hoping the funds help rebuild Elotes El Regio Dos stronger.

Ultimately, as Corpus Christi residents line up for street food, they’re helping The Corpus Christi Food Truck rebuild its dream.
