Wichita Falls Nail Salon Amputation Lawsuit

A Wichita Falls woman has filed a civil lawsuit alleging that a routine pedicure at a local nail salon triggered a severe infection that ultimately required the amputation of her left leg. The case, now before the court, raises serious questions about sanitation practices, client screening, and infection-control standards in nail salons.

According to court records, Sandra Davis filed the lawsuit Tuesday in the 89th District Court against Pro Nails and its owner, Michael Trung Tsui. The lawsuit requests compensation exceeding $1 million to cover damages related to the alleged harm.what Davis describes as catastrophic and permanent injuries.

In the filing, Davis states that she visited the nail salon at 3905 Wayne Ave. in Wichita Falls on or about Feb. 20, 2024, for a pedicure. Prior to the appointment, she had recently undergone a minor medical procedure involving the removal of a hangnail on the toe of her left foot.

The lawsuit claims the salon did not ask about recent medical treatment or assess whether her toe was suitable for a pedicure. As a result, Davis alleges, technicians treated a “compromised digit that should not have been treated.”

Beyond the lack of client screening, the lawsuit also alleges broader safety violations. Davis contends that the salon failed to comply with basic sanitation and infection-control standards required for nail services. These alleged lapses include the use of tools that were not properly cleaned or sanitized before the pedicure.

Such failures, the lawsuit argues, significantly increased the risk of infection—particularly for a client who had recently received medical treatment on her foot.

Following the pedicure, Davis reportedly experienced severe pain in the affected toe. Despite seeking medical care, her condition worsened quickly. Doctors later diagnosed her with cellulitis, an abscess, and osteomyelitis, a serious bone infection.

According to the lawsuit, the infections progressed to the point where physicians had no option but to perform a left below-the-knee amputation. The filing states that Davis has since endured permanent physical impairment, emotional distress, and a substantial loss of quality of life.

Davis is seeking damages in excess of $1 million. The lawsuit cites multiple categories of harm, including physical pain, mental anguish, permanent disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of life, and extensive medical and hospital expenses. It also references ongoing emotional distress tied to the life-altering nature of the amputation.

Her legal representation is provided by Streck & Davis Law, a Fort Worth-based firm.

As of publication, the salon owner has not publicly responded to the allegations. Times Record News reported that it reached out to the business for comment but had not received a response.

Because the case is still in its early stages, the claims outlined in the lawsuit have not yet been tested in court. The defendants will have the opportunity to respond formally as the legal process continues.

While this lawsuit concerns a single incident, it underscores broader concerns regarding health and safety standards in personal care services. Nail salons typically operate under state and local regulations that require proper sanitation, sterilization of tools, and attention to client health conditions that may increase infection risk.

Consumer safety advocates often emphasize that clients should disclose recent medical procedures and that salons should actively ask about them. This case may prompt renewed scrutiny of whether such practices are consistently followed.

The lawsuit will proceed through the 89th District Court, where both sides will present evidence and testimony. If the case moves forward, it could result in a settlement or a trial verdict that clarifies liability and potential damages.
