The Frisco RoughRiders opened their road series with an impressive comeback victory, defeating the Corpus Christi Hooks 3-2 on Tuesday night at Whataburger Field. A dominant pitching performance and timely home runs helped Frisco erase an early deficit and continue its strong run against Corpus Christi.
Frisco Responds After Early Hooks Surge
The game started in the Hooks’ favor as Corpus Christi quickly built a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. First baseman Will Bush energized the home crowd by launching a two-run home run, giving the Hooks an early advantage against Frisco starter Aidan Curry.
However, Curry settled in immediately after the opening frame and never allowed another run. The right-hander delivered one of the best outings of his season, striking out 12 batters across six innings while surrendering only three hits and two walks. His 12 strikeouts matched a career high and kept Frisco within striking distance throughout the contest.
Curry’s Command Changes the Game
After Bush’s home run, Curry consistently attacked the strike zone with confidence. His ability to generate swings and misses prevented Corpus Christi from creating additional scoring opportunities.
Every inning that passed gave the RoughRiders offense more chances to climb back into the game, and the pitchers rewarded that confidence by limiting the Hooks to just a handful of baserunners for the remainder of Curry’s outing.
Home Runs Fuel the Comeback
Frisco wasted little time responding.
In the second inning, Marcus Lee Sang delivered a solo home run—his 10th of the season—to trim the deficit to 2-1. The blast immediately shifted momentum toward the visitors and sparked the RoughRiders’ offense.
A few innings later, Rafe Perich provided the game’s biggest swing. He drove a two-run homer down the left-field line against Corpus Christi starter Nic Swanson, turning a one-run deficit into a 3-2 Frisco lead.
Those two swings proved decisive, as every run scored during the game came via the long ball. Neither club managed to manufacture a run through singles, doubles, or sacrifice plays, making power hitting the defining factor of the night.
Frisco Bullpen Slams the Door
Once Frisco grabbed the lead, Josh Trentadue ensured it would not disappear.
The reliever worked the final three innings with remarkable efficiency, earning the victory after striking out six batters while allowing just one baserunner. His overpowering performance prevented the Hooks from mounting any late-game threat and secured the opening-game win for the RoughRiders.
Together, Curry and Trentadue combined for an extraordinary 18 strikeouts, overwhelming Corpus Christi hitters from start to finish.
RoughRiders Tie Franchise Strikeout Mark
Beyond earning another victory, Frisco also matched a significant franchise achievement.
The RoughRiders’ pitching staff recorded 18 strikeouts, tying the organization’s record for the most strikeouts in a nine-inning game. The performance also finished just one strikeout shy of the club’s overall franchise record of 19.
The victory improved Frisco’s record to 46-35 overall and 7-6 during the second half of the season. It also continued the club’s recent success in Corpus Christi, where the RoughRiders now own a strong 7-3 record.
Meanwhile, the Hooks dropped to 39-43 overall and 7-6 in the second-half standings despite scoring first.
What’s Next in the Series?
The two clubs continue their series Wednesday evening at Whataburger Field.
Frisco is scheduled to send left-hander Blake Townsend (3-4, 5.37 ERA) to the mound, while Corpus Christi is expected to counter with right-hander Bryce Mayer (2-2, 3.56 ERA).
With Frisco carrying momentum from Tuesday’s comeback victory and its pitching staff performing at an elite level, the second game promises another competitive matchup between the division rivals.
