Meeting the Needs of a Growing District
London ISD Opens New Primary School this fall to accommodate its rapidly growing student population. The newly built campus will serve prekindergarten and kindergarten students, freeing up valuable space at London Elementary for older grade levels. Without this addition, the elementary school would have had to rely heavily on portable classrooms.
To mark the milestone, the district hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony last Friday, during which excited families received their first look at the new facility.
A Modern Space Built for Little Learners
The new school serves more than just a purpose—it intentionally caters to the needs of young children. Designers placed an open-concept library near the entrance and created a multi-purpose gymnasium that also functions as a cafeteria. Every corner encourages learning and engagement.
One of the first to explore the space was soon-to-be kindergartener Jayla Fulbright, who eagerly grabbed a book from the library shelf before settling in at a child-sized table to color.
Her mother, Alexa Fulbright, beamed with approval. “It’s beautiful,” she said. “I love that everything is tiny for little ones. Everything is miniature. It’s just for them.”
Fulbright, who has several older children in the district, has witnessed London ISD’s rapid growth firsthand. “When my fourth grader was in pre-K, there were only two classrooms. Now, there’s so much more space and more opportunities.”
Backed by Voter Support
Local voters approved a 2022 bond election, which ultimately funded the $14.5 million project. As a result, the new 30,346-square-foot facility features open classrooms, modern design, and room for future expansion.
Furthermore, according to Superintendent Bill Chapman, the district currently offers both free pre-K for qualifying families and tuition-based pre-K for all 4-year-olds within the district. Chapman also emphasized that the new school includes open classrooms intentionally designed to accommodate the district’s anticipated growth.
Preparing for the Future
Chapman also shared that London ISD expects to see an 8% increase in enrollment each year. With junior high and high school campuses likely to reach capacity in just two to three years, the district is forming a facility committee to assess both short- and long-term needs.
Meanwhile, teachers are already working hard to make their new classrooms feel like home. With the first day of school set for July 23, there’s a sense of urgency—and excitement—among staff.
“I’m super excited to be welcoming our newest and littlest Pirates,” said Principal Lori Maldonado. “This campus is all about making our youngest students feel secure, valued, and prepared to learn.”
A Bright Start for London’s Littlest Pirates
London ISD Opens New Primary School as part of its ongoing efforts to support a growing community and provide quality education. As the district continues to expand, this new campus represents more than just a building—it’s a long-term investment in the future of London ISD. Backed by thoughtful design, strong community support, and a clear vision for growth, the district is making sure its youngest students have the space, tools, and environment they need to thrive.
