Community in Shock After Fatal Halloween Party Shooting

Kingsville Police seek a suspect accused of fatally shooting an 18-year-old woman during a Halloween party over the weekend. The tragic incident has left the Kingsville community in mourning, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A news release from the Kingsville Police Department (KPD) stated that officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 10:41 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the 300 block of West Kenedy Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Katelynn Villarreal with a gunshot wound to the head. Despite immediate efforts, Villarreal was pronounced dead at the scene.

What Happened at the Party

Kingsville Police seek suspect after witnesses said a small group gathered in a backyard shed. During the party, an argument reportedly broke out between Katelynn Villarreal and Larry Anthony Rodriguez, both 18.

Witnesses said Rodriguez pulled a handgun from a backpack and fired a single shot, striking Villarreal. After the shooting, he allegedly fled the scene on foot before officers arrived. Kingsville Police seek suspect Rodriguez, who they believe may still be in the area and is considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting, but police have classified the case as murder under Texas law.

Warrant Issued for Murder Suspect

Judge Ventura “Sonny” Gonzalez III, a Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, has signed a murder warrant for Rodriguez’s arrest. As of Nov. 3, however, the suspect remains at large.

In response, investigators are urging anyone who might have seen Rodriguez or knows his whereabouts to contact the Kingsville Police Department immediately. Additionally, residents may share anonymous tips with Kingsville Crime Stoppers at 361-592-INFO (4636).

Ultimately, authorities stress that no piece of information is too small, since it could help bring justice to the victim’s family and ensure community safety.

Police Continue Investigation

The Kingsville Police Department continues to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Police Chief Ricardo Torres has not yet released additional information about the case, citing the ongoing investigation.

Officials urge residents to remain alert and work closely with law enforcement. Police also advise the public not to approach the suspect if spotted, but to call 911 immediately.

A Community Mourns a Young Life Lost

The death of Katelynn Villarreal has left friends and family reeling. Known by her peers as kind and outgoing, Villarreal had recently graduated from high school and was planning to attend college. In the days following her death, her loved ones have taken to social media to share memories, call for justice, and urge others to help police locate the suspect.

Meanwhile, in small towns like Kingsville, where residents are tightly connected, the tragedy has cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a night of celebration. As a result, many community members have expressed heartbreak over the violence, calling for greater awareness around youth safety and responsible firearm use.

Police Urge Public Cooperation

Law enforcement officials emphasize that community cooperation is critical to solving violent crimes. Kingsville police are coordinating with local and state agencies to expand their search and follow up on every lead.

Anyone with information, however minor it may seem, is urged to come forward. Authorities remind the public that tips submitted to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous. Authorities may offer cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest.

As Kingsville mourns Villarreal’s loss, police remain determined to bring Rodriguez into custody and deliver justice for the victim and her family.
