As Mosquito Awareness Week continues, residents can still receive a free mosquito prevention kit before supplies run out. The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District is wrapping up its week-long community campaign with two final drive-thru distribution events designed to help families protect themselves from mosquito-borne illnesses.

The initiative encourages residents to take simple yet effective steps to reduce mosquito populations around their homes while promoting public health and emergency preparedness. Community members are encouraged to attend one of the remaining events and pick up a free kit while supplies last.

Final Mosquito Awareness Week Events

The last two mosquito-prevention kit distribution events will take place on June 25 and June 26, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both events operate as drive-thru distributions, making it convenient for residents to collect supplies without leaving their vehicles.

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District will host the June 25 event at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center and the final event on June 26 at the Bill Witt Sports Complex.

Although distribution continues until 7 p.m., organizers remind residents that kits are available only while supplies last. Because demand has remained high throughout the week, organizers encourage residents to arrive early.

To ensure that more families benefit from the program, each household is limited to one mosquito-prevention kit.

What’s Included in the Free Mosquito Prevention Kit?

Each kit contains practical items that help residents reduce mosquito breeding areas and protect themselves from bites during mosquito season.

The free kits include:

  • Mosquito dunks for treating standing water
  • Insect repellent
  • Educational guides covering mosquito prevention
  • Family health information
  • Safety and emergency preparedness resources

These materials provide homeowners with valuable tools to minimize mosquito activity around their properties and reduce the risk of mosquito-related diseases.

Why Mosquito Prevention Matters

Mosquitoes are more than just a seasonal nuisance. They can carry diseases that affect both people and animals, making prevention an important part of protecting community health.

Standing water found in birdbaths, flower pots, clogged gutters, buckets, and other outdoor containers creates ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. By eliminating these breeding sites and using preventative products such as mosquito dunks and insect repellent, residents can significantly reduce mosquito populations around their homes.

Educational materials included in the kits also guide personal protection, home maintenance, and emergency preparedness, helping families stay informed throughout the summer months.

Additional Pickup Location Available

Residents who cannot attend the evening drive-thru events still have another opportunity to receive a mosquito prevention kit.

The Ethel Eyerly Senior Center continues distributing kits and educational guides during regular business hours through June 26. The center distributes supplies on a first-come, first-served basis until it runs out of inventory.

This additional pickup location offers greater accessibility for residents who may be unable to attend the scheduled evening events.

Community Encouraged to Act Early

With mosquito activity increasing during the warmer months, local health officials encourage residents to take advantage of the free resources while they remain available.

The mosquito prevention campaign highlights the importance of community participation in reducing mosquito breeding habitats and protecting neighborhoods from mosquito-borne health risks. Removing standing water and using repellents help reduce mosquito populations throughout the season.

Residents planning to attend one of the remaining distribution events should arrive early, as demand may exceed available supplies. Organizers distribute kits on a first-come, first-served basis, so supplies may run out before each event ends. Families create safer, healthier communities by using free prevention resources during Mosquito Awareness Week.
