Murder Charge Filed in Fatal Westside Stabbing
A 34-year-old Corpus Christi man faces a murder charge following a fatal stabbing on the city’s westside, police announced.
Jerry Lee Alvarez was taken into custody on July 21 after investigators identified him as a suspect in the death of 56-year-old Jose Davila. Detectives obtained a murder warrant before making the arrest, according to the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Authorities transported Alvarez to the main police station for questioning. He was later booked into the City Detention Center, where his bond was set at $1 million.
Although police have announced an arrest, the criminal case remains pending. As in all criminal proceedings, Alvarez is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charge against him in court.
What Happened on 18th Street?
The fatal Corpus Christi stabbing occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on July 16 in the 1700 block of 18th Street.
Officers responding to the westside location found Davila suffering from a stab wound. They immediately began providing first aid while waiting for emergency medical personnel to arrive.
Paramedics then transported Davila to a local hospital for further treatment. However, he later died from his injuries. The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently confirmed his identity.
