Junior Beach Lifeguard Camp Opens for Summer 2026
Families in Corpus Christi searching for an engaging and educational summer activity can now register their children for the city’s returning Junior Beach Lifeguard Camp. Following a successful launch last year, the Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department is bringing the program back for Summer 2026 with expanded opportunities for young participants to learn critical beach safety and rescue skills.
The camp offers local youth a hands-on introduction to lifeguarding, water rescue techniques, teamwork, and leadership while spending time outdoors along the Texas Gulf Coast.
City officials say the program helps children build confidence, improve water awareness, and gain valuable knowledge that will benefit them for years to come.”
Summer Camp Sessions Scheduled
The Junior Beach Lifeguard Camp will feature two separate weeklong sessions during the summer season. The camp runs June 22–26 for the first session and July 13–17 for the second.
The program is open to children ages 10 to 15 who are interested in beach safety, emergency response, and aquatic activities. Organizers encourage families to register early because space may fill quickly as summer approaches.
The cost to participate is $90 per child.
According to city officials, the camp combines education with active outdoor learning, giving participants a realistic look at the daily responsibilities of professional beach rescue teams.
Hands-On Lifeguard Training for Youth
Throughout the camp, participants will receive practical instruction from experienced personnel focused on beach and water safety. Campers will learn basic rescue techniques, CPR awareness, teamwork skills, and emergency preparedness strategies commonly used by beach lifeguards.
In addition, students will gain firsthand experience with the physical and mental responsibilities required in public safety roles. Robert Dodd said the camp prepares young participants for future beach rescue and public safety opportunities.
“This allows younger kids to see what it takes to be a beach rescue lifeguard,” Dodd said. “It’s an opportunity to develop some skills and get ready for the opportunity when they get out in the workforce.”
Organizers believe the experience can inspire participants to pursue future careers in emergency response, public safety, or community service.
Campers Receive Safety Gear and Certification
Children enrolled in the program will receive several training materials and safety items as part of their registration. Each participant will receive a Junior Lifeguard Manual, a camp T-shirt, a CPR mask, and a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
The resources reinforce weekly lessons while giving campers practical tools they can continue using beyond the program.
The camp also promotes discipline, accountability, and communication skills that can benefit children in both school and extracurricular activities.
Beach Safety Remains a Priority
As thousands of residents and tourists visit Gulf Coast beaches every summer, city leaders continue emphasizing the importance of water safety education for children and families. The camp teaches young people water safety skills to help prevent accidents and emergency situations.
