Corpus Christi launches a major housing initiative with a $150,000 investment aimed at analyzing and improving local housing options. In partnership with the Corpus Christi Housing Authority (CCHA), the city will conduct a comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment and develop a practical Toolkit. By doing so, officials hope to gain a clearer understanding of what types of homes are most needed—and which populations are most affected. City Council Approves Funding Without Debate
On July 29, the City Council, serving as the Corpus Christi Housing Finance Corporation, approved the motion to proceed with the housing assessment. Although the vote passed without discussion, the attached agenda documents clearly outlined the plan’s scope, goals, and expected deliverables.
City staff now hold the authority to solicit proposals from qualified consulting firms, sign a contract with the highest-scoring applicant, and enter into a formal cooperation agreement with CCHA to conduct the assessment.
What Will the Study Examine?
The assessment’s primary objective is to identify current and future gaps between housing demand and supply across different income levels and housing types. While affordable housing remains a key focus, the city also stresses analyzing the full market to address broader pressures effectively.
