Rockport Man Charged in Christmas Day Murder of Wife

Rockport police have formally identified both the victim and the suspect in a fatal Christmas Day shooting that unfolded inside a quiet residential neighborhood. Authorities say new evidence and a follow-up interview led to a murder charge against a 65-year-old man in the death of his wife, bringing clarity to a case that initially raised more questions than answers.

According to investigators, the incident occurred Dec. 25 at a home in the 700 block of North Ann Street. Several days later, on Dec. 30, police announced that Alberto Sanchez had been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife, 50-year-old Yanira Magdalena Sanchez.

Police responded to the Rockport residence after receiving reports of a shooting on Christmas Day. When officers arrived, they encountered a chaotic and distressing scene. Yanira Sanchez was found dead inside the home, while Alberto Sanchez was suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck.

Meanwhile, neighbors and passersby reported seeing Alberto Sanchez standing on his front porch, attempting to get the attention of a group of young people nearby. He appeared injured and in distress. Emergency responders quickly transported him to a local hospital for medical treatment.
