Former NHL defenseman Michel Petit, founder and CEO of Blueline SlapShot LLC, recently confirmed that plans are moving forward to bring an ECHL team to the Houston area within the next two to three years. Houston Set to Receive New ECHL Team
According to Petit, a current ECHL franchise will relocate to Houston once the new arena project reaches completion. Although the identity of the relocating team remains undisclosed, plans for the organization are already underway.
The proposed development includes a modern 8,000-seat arena featuring premium club suites and fan amenities. The facility is expected to be built on land located north of Interstate 45 and south of The Woodlands. Petit said his group anticipates finalizing a land purchase agreement before the end of 2026.
Construction on the arena would follow shortly, with the team potentially beginning play in the 2028-29 season. The estimated cost of the project is approximately $200 million.
