A free creative writing workshop in Corpus Christi will give students in grades 8–12 an opportunity to explore storytelling, build confidence, and discover their creative potential.

Local author and creative writer Anthony Falcon will lead “Your Voice, Your Story,” a workshop designed to help teenagers express themselves through writing. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the YWCA in Corpus Christi.

The workshop welcomes aspiring authors, songwriters, comic book creators, and other young storytellers who want to develop their skills in a supportive environment.

Anthony Falcon Helps Teens Discover Writing

Falcon hopes to make creative writing more engaging and accessible for young people. Through different storytelling formats, he encourages students to explore their imagination and recognize the value of their own ideas.

His creative work spans several disciplines, including comic books, stage plays, graphic novels, novels, and songwriting. He also wrote the children’s book Be Brave, Be Brave, Be Brave.

In a recent interview, Falcon explained that he uses these different forms of creative expression to help children approach writing in a fresh, enjoyable way.

Rather than treating writing as a difficult academic exercise, he wants students to see it as an opportunity to experiment, communicate, and tell meaningful stories.

This approach may help teenagers who enjoy creating characters, imagining fictional worlds, writing songs, or sharing personal experiences but have not yet found an outlet for their ideas.

Why Creative Writing Matters for Students

Creative writing offers young people more than an opportunity to improve grammar and vocabulary. It also helps them develop communication skills, organize their thoughts, explore emotions, and express their perspectives.

However, students often don’t have enough opportunities to pursue creative writing beyond regular classroom assignments. Falcon hopes his workshop will provide a welcoming space where participants can experiment without feeling pressured to produce perfect work.

The goal is to help teenagers understand that their experiences, interests, and imaginations can become the foundation for original stories.

Building Confidence Through Storytelling

For young writers, the fear of making mistakes can sometimes prevent them from sharing their ideas. A supportive learning environment can encourage students to take creative risks and develop confidence in their abilities.

Through Your Voice, Your Story, Falcon wants participants to recognize that storytelling does not have to follow a single formula. A student’s creativity might emerge through a short story, a comic book concept, a song, a stage play, or another form of written expression.

By exploring different approaches, students can discover which storytelling methods best suit their interests and strengths.

Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

The growing availability of artificial intelligence tools has changed how people create and develop written content. While these technologies can assist with brainstorming and drafting, Falcon believes young people must continue developing their independent creativity.

He worries that relying too heavily on AI-generated ideas could discourage some students from exploring their own imaginations.

For Falcon, creativity is a valuable ability that deserves attention and encouragement. He describes naturally creative children as possessing a special gift, comparing their imagination to a superpower.

His message is not simply about producing better writers. Instead, he wants students to recognize the importance of their individual voices and understand that their original ideas deserve to be heard.

Developing these skills can help young people become more thoughtful communicators and more confident creators, whether they eventually pursue writing professionally or enjoy it as a personal interest.

What to Expect at the Free Writing Workshop

The five-hour workshop will combine writing instruction with opportunities for students to explore different storytelling styles. Participants can learn about creative expression while discovering new ways to turn their ideas into written work.

Snacks will also be available during the event, helping create a relaxed atmosphere for learning and creativity.
