A multi-vehicle collision at Weber and McArdle Roads in Corpus Christi left several injured, including four children, after a driver allegedly ran a red light while intoxicated, according to police.
Details of the Multi-Vehicle Collision
At around 1:36 p.m.,
CCPD officers received emergency calls reporting a serious three-vehicle wreck, setting off a rapid response to the scene. Upon arrival, first responders found significant debris and damaged vehicles blocking the busy thoroughfare.
Building on their initial findings, CCPD Public Information Officer Madeline Commons shared details from the preliminary investigation. Authorities reported that the driver of the first vehicle—now identified as the at-fault party—was traveling westbound on McArdle Road. Investigators determined that after stopping at the intersection, the driver attempted to proceed through a red light.
As the driver entered the intersection, their vehicle was broadsided by a southbound car on Weber Road, which was then propelled by the impact into a third car stopped at the opposing red light.
Injuries Reported: Juveniles Hospitalized
Immediately after the crash, local emergency medical services responded quickly to the scene. Meanwhile, the second vehicle, which was struck after the red light violation, contained four juveniles who were evaluated by medics. In addition, Officer Commons confirmed responders took all four children to a hospital for precautionary medical evaluations.
Simultaneously, emergency responders transported the critically injured driver to a medical facility in stable condition. However, authorities have not yet released additional information regarding injuries to the other drivers or passengers involved.
DWI Charges and Legal Consequences
During the investigation, traffic officers uncovered the cause of the erratic driving. Police officially charged the first driver with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).
This sequence of events underscores the ongoing dangers of impaired driving on Texas roads. Critical injury investigations and scene reconstruction caused major afternoon traffic delays at Weber and McArdle.
