A 17-year-old is facing a felony charge after Corpus Christi police said he fired multiple shots into an occupied vehicle during a dispute in the Flour Bluff area, leading to a crash moments later. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but investigators continue gathering evidence as the case remains under review.
The incident has raised concerns about gun violence involving teenagers and the dangers of disputes escalating into potentially deadly situations.
Police Respond to Shooting in Flour Bluff
The Corpus Christi Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 4:04 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, in the 700 block of Glenoak Drive.
When officers arrived at the scene, they located two individuals who had been involved in the incident. Despite the gunfire, authorities confirmed that neither person suffered any physical injuries.
Investigators immediately secured the area and began interviewing witnesses while collecting evidence to determine exactly what led to the shooting.
Verbal Dispute Escalates Into Gunfire
According to investigators, the incident began as a verbal disturbance between people who knew each other. Police believe the argument escalated before the 17-year-old allegedly fired several shots into an occupied vehicle.
Officers later arrested the teenager on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Authorities emphasized that the individuals involved were acquainted with one another. Based on the evidence gathered so far, detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident rather than a random act of violence.
Even so, investigators continue reviewing witness statements and other evidence as they work to complete the case.
Occupied Vehicle Crashes After Leaving the Scene
Following the shooting, the targeted vehicle quickly fled the Glenoak Apartments.
Police said the driver left the area at a high rate of speed before losing control and crashing near the traffic signal outside the Dollar General in the 9600 block of Waldron Road.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash scene shortly afterward. Despite the significant collision, authorities confirmed that no one was injured.
The crash appears to have occurred only minutes after the shooting, highlighting how quickly dangerous situations can create additional public safety risks.
Teen Faces Aggravated Assault Charge
The juvenile suspect was taken into custody following the investigation.
Under Texas law, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a serious felony offense that can carry severe legal consequences. Although the suspect is 17 years old, Texas law generally treats individuals of that age as adults in the criminal justice system.
Officials have not released additional details regarding the suspect’s court proceedings or whether further charges could be filed as the investigation develops.
Investigation Remains Active
Detectives continue examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting and subsequent traffic crash. Investigators are reviewing physical evidence, interviewing witnesses, and working to establish a complete timeline of events.
At this time, police have not announced any additional arrests or identified any outstanding suspects.
Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information about the incident to cooperate with investigators as the case remains active.
While no injuries were reported, the incident serves as a reminder of how quickly personal disputes can escalate into dangerous situations involving firearms. Officials continue investigating Sunday’s incident and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
