Uber Introduces Teen Accounts for Rides and Food Delivery in South Texas

Uber has rolled out a new option in the Corpus Christi region, letting teenagers set up specific accounts via their family profiles. This feature permits kids aged 13 to 17 to independently request rides and place food orders while under parental oversight and with essential safety mechanisms in place.

To enhance safety, there’s a PIN verification system ensuring riders board the right vehicle. An audio recording feature is also available during journeys, storing the encrypted file on the device.

“When utilizing the audio recording feature, the file is encrypted and stored on the user’s phone, ensuring it’s inaccessible, even to the individual who started the recording,” stated the company.

Parents can continuously communicate with the driver transporting their child and monitor the vehicle’s location in real time. The RideCheck feature leverages sensors and GPS data to identify if the driver diverts from the planned route or halts unexpectedly.

While all Uber accounts have access to these features, they are automatically activated for teen accounts and cannot be deactivated by the teenager, driver, or parent.

To accept rides or delivery requests from teenagers, drivers must undergo local screenings and background checks. This ensures that only the most reputable, seasoned drivers cater to teen users.

I’m curious about how to set up a teen account.

Parents can invite their teenagers to set up an account via the family profile within the Uber app. The teen will then get a link to install the app and initiate their dedicated teen account. Additionally, teenage users must undergo compulsory safety training.

Drivers have the option to decline requests involving teenage riders whenever they choose.
