Coastal Bend Students Gain Access to College Resources

The Coastal Bend Area College Night Expo is returning this fall, offering high school students and their families in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas the opportunity to explore higher education options. Scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Moody High School’s Elizondo Gym, the event will bring together representatives from numerous colleges and universities eager to connect with prospective students.

Attendees can connect directly with admissions counselors, explore academic programs, and learn about available financial aid and scholarships. Meanwhile, the Corpus Christi Independent School District (CCISD), which is hosting the event, emphasized that it is open to all area schools—not just CCISD campuses.

Why the Event Matters

Events like College Night are critical for families making important educational decisions. Students not only gather brochures and applications, but they also gain valuable one-on-one time with recruiters. This interaction helps many teens clarify their goals and prepare for the transition to higher education.

Additionally, the event enables parents to ask practical questions about tuition, housing, and career pathways, ensuring that families make well-informed decisions.

Flexible Attendance for Busy Families

The organizers designed the expo to be flexible. Students and families can come and go throughout the two-hour event, reducing scheduling conflicts. The venue, Moody High School, located at 1818 Trojan Drive in Corpus Christi, was selected for its accessibility. Parking will be available on Castenon Street.

In previous years, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi hosted the event, but organizers relocated it to Moody High School to ensure easier access for all families.

Building Pathways for Younger Students

The College Night Expo targets high schoolers exploring post-graduation options, while CCISD also supports younger students. The district will host its High School Expo on October 8 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Carroll High School Arena, located at 3202 Saratoga Boulevard.

This second event will focus on seventh through ninth graders and their families, providing them with a clear picture of what each CCISD high school has to offer. The goal is to help younger students plan their high school experience in alignment with long-term academic and career goals.

Programs of Choice: Tailored Education

CCISD’s High School Expo will highlight the district’s “programs of choice,” which include specialized career and technical education tracks. Because programs vary by school, students can transfer campuses to join specialized pathways of their choice.

These programs span multiple fields, including engineering, health sciences, the arts, and technology. By giving students a chance to tailor their high school experience, CCISD prepares them for both college and workforce opportunities.

Opportunities for Exploration

Both expos reflect CCISD’s commitment to creating accessible pathways for students at every stage of their academic journey.

  • The College Night Expo on October 1 connects high school students to higher education opportunities.
  • The High School Expo on October 8 guides middle schoolers and first-year students toward programs that match their skills and interests.

These events create a support pipeline, equipping Corpus Christi students and families with essential knowledge and resources.

Looking Ahead

As Corpus Christi grows, therefore, these events help students and families make informed choices shaping brighter futures. Moreover, the College Night and High School Expos inspire students to build dreams, set goals, and discover opportunities. In addition, CCISD’s upcoming expos offer guidance, opportunity, and inspiration for seniors applying to college and middle schoolers.
