In the early hours of Saturday morning, an incident led to a 26-year-old woman being brought to the hospital. It was later arrested after a stray bullet struck her in the leg. The incident, which unfolded in the 700 block of N. Chapparal St., has left the community shaken and authorities urging witnesses to come forward.
Violence Erupts in Downtown
At approximately 1:20 a.m., police were dispatched to the scene after receiving multiple reports of gunshots and a person lying injured on the roadway. When officers arrived, they found a 26-year-old man with severe head injuries, though notably, none were from gunfire.
As officers began interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, another critical piece of the puzzle emerged. A woman, later identified as 26-year-old Maria Alonzo, arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg. This development led investigators to piece together the chaotic events that had transpired just moments before.
Unraveling the Chaos: What Happened?
According to witness statements and security camera footage, a brawl had erupted outside a nearby establishment as patrons were leaving. The conflict escalated rapidly and spilled into the street, where Jakob Martinez, 26, allegedly attacked the male victim with a firearm, striking him multiple times. As the victim lay defenseless on the ground, 23-year-old Serena Alonzo and 26-year-old Maria Alonzo were also seen physically assaulting him.
During the struggle, witnesses reportedly tried to intervene, but Martinez responded by firing several shots from his gun. In a tragic twist, one of the bullets struck Maria Alonzo in the leg, resulting in her subsequent hospitalization.
Arrests and Charges
Following the incident, police quickly apprehended Jakob Martinez and Serena Alonzo. Maria Alonzo, after receiving treatment and being medically cleared at the hospital, was also placed under arrest. All three individuals now face charges of aggravated assault causing severe bodily injury. Authorities have recovered the weapon used in the attack.
Despite these arrests, the investigation is far from over. Police have indicated that several other individuals were involved in the incident, some of whom have been identified, while others remain unknown. The authorities are actively seeking additional information to bring all those responsible to justice.
