According to the Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD), witnesses performed CPR on the injured man when officers arrived. Officers then took over life-saving efforts until emergency medical personnel from the Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived.

The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Gilberto Villarreal. Investigators from CCPD’s Traffic Unit determined that Villarreal had been walking west across Weber Road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle traveling in the right lane.
