Burn Ban in Nueces County

Nueces County has issued a Burn Ban

The Nueces County Commissioners Court has issued a press statement announcing the immediate imposition of a burn ban in the unincorporated areas of Nueces County, effective for the next 60 days. This decisive action underscores the county’s dedication to mitigating fire hazards and safeguarding both property and lives within its domain amid a time of increased fire danger.

Authorities are strictly enforcing this ban, disallowing all forms of outdoor burning within the designated areas for the duration of this period. This measure aims to prevent wildfires, which can rapidly spread under dry and windy conditions, posing significant threats to communities, wildlife, and the environment.

However, recognizing the importance of certain activities that may necessitate controlled burns for public health and safety reasons, the Nueces County Commissioners Court has made provisions for exceptions. These exemptions align with guidelines authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Specific activities permitted under these exceptions include:

  1. Firefighter training
  2. Burns associated with public utilities, natural gas pipelines, or mining operations
  3. Burns conducted for planting or harvesting crops
  4. Burns overseen by a prescribed burn manager certified under Natural Resources Code 153.047

While the burn ban is in place, residents and businesses in the affected regions are urged to adhere to these restrictions to ensure the safety and well-being of the community and the environment.
