The North Pole isn’t the only place hiring elves this holiday season—Driscoll Children’s Hospital is also calling on the community to step in and make the season magical for its young patients. The hospital is gearing up for its annual “Sort-N-Stack” event, ensuring every child receives a special gift to brighten their hospital stay. However, donations are running low, and they need your help to keep the spirit of the season alive.
Bringing Smiles to Young Patients
Driscoll Children’s Hospital brings joy to children battling illnesses each year by wheeling a toy cart filled with gifts from room to room. “When our volunteer knocks on their door and lets them know they’re with the toy cart and have a new toy for the child, their face just lights up,” said Volunteer Services Manager Sarah Centeno.
The impact of these simple acts of kindness goes beyond the toys themselves. “Their anxiety is lowered—they tend to cuddle with that plushy or get to play board games,” Centeno explained. These moments of happiness help normalize the children’s hospital experience, giving them a sense of comfort during challenging times.
Urgent Need for Donations
This year, the hospital is facing a critical shortage of donations, particularly for two specific age groups: infants (0-3 years old) and teenagers. Toys for these age groups are often in high demand but short supply. To meet this urgent need, Driscoll Children’s Hospital calls on the community to lend a helping hand.
Whether soft plush toys for infants or age-appropriate games for teens, every donation makes a difference. If you’d like to contribute and participate in this meaningful effort, you can contact the Volunteer Services team at 361-694-5011.
