Corpus Christi Park Updates: West Guth & Labonte Changes

Corpus Christi Park Updates

New Traffic Changes and Safety Reminders in Local Parks

The Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department is alerting residents and visitors to important entrance and traffic updates at two of the city’s most beloved parks: West Guth Park and Labonte Park. With ongoing construction work at both locations, officials encourage the public to stay informed and follow all posted signs to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

West Guth Park: Roundabout Now in Use

As part of ongoing Corpus Christi park updates, a newly installed roundabout will become operational at the main entrance of West Guth Park, located at 9700 Up River Road, starting Friday, April 18. Park officials urge visitors to follow all directional signage to help maintain smooth traffic flow and ensure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.

Despite the construction, West Guth Park continues to be a favorite destination for outdoor activities. Visitors can still enjoy its well-loved amenities, including the skate park, children’s playground, walking trail, dog park, and fitness equipment. However, they should remain alert and use extra caution near the construction zone for the upcoming Northwest Police Substation, where crews have placed temporary barriers and caution signs.

Labonte Park: Single Entrance Due to Road Work

Meanwhile, Labonte Park, located at 14,333 IH 37 Access Road, is also undergoing construction that affects how guests enter and exit the site. Currently, there is only one designated entrance and exit, making it especially important for campers and visitors to plan accordingly.

To reserve a campsite at Labonte Park, make your reservation by noon on Thursday, April 17. Because of limited access and ongoing roadwork, staff will not accept on-site registrations during this period.

Safety and Park Rules: Plan for a Great Visit

While construction may pose minor inconveniences, the Parks & Recreation Department remains committed to ensuring everyone’s safety and enjoyment. To that end, they’ve issued a reminder of park rules all visitors should keep in mind:

  • Park hours are 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • No alcohol or glass containers
  • Do not drive or park on grass or sidewalks
  • Owners must keep all dogs on a leash
  • Always clean up after your pets
  • Dispose of trash properly in designated receptacles
  • Visitors must obtain a proper permit before camping
  • You may use BBQ grills but do not leave coals or place them in trash cans
  • Vending is not allowed unless properly permitted
  • Only approved moonwalk vendors are permitted

Following these rules keeps the parks clean and safe and helps preserve them for future generations.
