The City of Corpus Christi is now inviting bids to employ armed security guards for Sunrise Beach RV Park. This move aims to enhance the park’s safety and security, which is strategically important due to its location near the Wesley Seale Dam.

Corpus Christi Water has owned Sunrise Beach RV Park, located at Lake Corpus Christi in Mathis, since 2008. The city purchased the property to protect the Wesley Seale Dam, a crucial component of Corpus Christi’s water supply.
Esteban Ramos, Corpus Christi’s Water Resource Manager, explained the rationale behind this acquisition. “We purchased the property to ensure security around Wesley Seale Dam, which adds to the protection and welfare of our water supply,” Ramos said.
Current Security Measures
The city has been using armed security guards at Sunrise Beach RV Park for over a year. However, they seek to implement a new contract to enhance these security measures. The bidding process is designed to attract multiple bids from companies capable of providing these critical services.
“Through this process, we hope to receive multiple bids from different groups or companies that can provide these services,” Ramos added.
Funding and Community Support
This initiative will be funded by CC Water’s Organizational Fund. Local fishermen and park visitors have expressed their support for this move, recognizing the importance of maintaining safety in the area.
“As far as having armed security guards out here, it would be nice just in case somebody might not have enough medication or things get crazy,” one fisherman said.

Ramos emphasized the need for security guards at the park, particularly given its remote location. The park is far from the central city and emergency services, making on-site security even more critical.
“In an area that’s out of the large communities, having security guard activities out there to provide those services is much needed,” Ramos explained.

Corpus Christi Water will close its bids on July 16. Subsequently, after reviewing the bids, they will present them to the city council for approval by the end of August.
