As the year winds down, meanwhile, Corpus Christi is adjusting its operations to observe the winter holiday season. Therefore, residents planning city-related business between Christmas and New Year’s Day should note several temporary closures and modified schedules for essential and community services. To help with planning, here’s a comprehensive breakdown of what to expect.

City Offices Closed for the Holiday Week

All nonessential city offices—including City Hall, the Public Health District, Development Services, and Planning & Economic Development—will be closed from Christmas Day through New Year’s Day, reopening on January 2.
However, essential public safety and critical services will continue normal operations during this period.

Emergency and Essential Services Remain Open

Emergency and critical services will continue throughout the holiday. Police and fire departments will keep regular schedules. Corpus Christi International Airport will also maintain regular operations. Water, wastewater, and solid waste services will run as usual. Staff from gas and public works will remain on call for urgent needs.

Utility Payments and Senior Services

Even though the office for utility bills will be closed, people can still pay online, at local H-E-B stores, or by phone at 361-885-0751.
The Home Bound meal delivery program will pause on Christmas Day. It will also pause from Dec. 29 through New Year’s Day. To ensure continuity, seniors will receive a five-day supply of shelf-stable meals on Dec. 26. The Senior Companion Program will operate during the holiday closure. Seniors seeking assistance can call 361-826-3154 for more information.

Municipal Court and Animal Care Schedules

Municipal Court

During the holiday period, Municipal Court will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Dec. 26, Dec. 29, Dec. 30, New Year’s Eve, and Jan. 2. However, it will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Animal Care Services

Meanwhile, Animal Care Services will continue responding to calls throughout the closure period. In addition, adoptions will be available from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 27, Dec. 29, Dec. 30, and New Year’s Eve. By contrast, the facility will be closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 26, Dec. 28, and New Year’s Day.

Parks, Recreation, and Fitness Facilities

Golfers can access Lozano Golf Center, Oso Golf Course, and The Firefly from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Regular hours resume on New Year’s Day. These facilities will close on Christmas.
Tennis enthusiasts will find modified hours at Al Kruse Tennis Center and H-E-B Tennis Center: both locations are closed on Christmas and New Year’s Day, but open on select dates in between.
Aquatic facilities will also adjust schedules. Collier Pool and the Natatorium will offer limited lap and open swim hours during late December. Both pools will close on Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Nature Centers, Gyms, and Youth Programs

The Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center will operate limited holiday hours. A guided nature walk is set for Dec. 27. The center will close the building for several days, but the walking trail and playground will remain open daily from dawn to dusk.
City gyms, recreation centers, and most senior centers will remain closed through early January. Zavala Senior Center will reopen later, closing through Jan. 4.
Youth programs, including After-Hour Kid Power and Winter Break Vacation Station camps, will follow district-specific schedules, with closures on major holidays and select operating days throughout the break.

Libraries, Trash Collection, and City Services

Public libraries will open for regular hours on Christmas Eve but close for the remainder of the holiday period. Solid Waste Services will adjust Thursday collections to Dec. 27 and Jan. 3, while bulky and brush pickup schedules remain unchanged. Landfills and transfer stations will close on Christmas and New Year’s Day. The 311 Call Center will have shorter hours on some dates and will close on both holidays.
