Bond Set to $50k for CCPD Officer in Misconduct Case

Bond

A federal judge set a $50,000 bond for Corpus Christi Police Department Officer Daniel Verduzco on Wednesday afternoon following his arrest for alleged sexual misconduct involving a minor. The bond decision comes amid serious allegations and strict conditions for the officer’s release.

The Allegations and Arrest

Verduzco’s arrest on Sunday followed a joint investigation by Homeland Security and the Tulsa Police Department. According to authorities, he allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl who, at the time, lived in Corpus Christi in 2023. Since then, the victim has moved to Oklahoma and remains at the center of the case, which resulted in federal charges of coercion and enticement.

Meanwhile, Assistant U.S. Attorneys strongly opposed Verduzco’s release on bond, describing the case as a “hands-on offense” and underscoring the seriousness of the allegations.

Defense Arguments for Bond

Defense attorney Terry Shamsie argued that Verduzco deserved bond, citing his lack of criminal history, homeownership in Nueces County, and reputation as a law-abiding citizen. Shamsie emphasized that Verduzco had cooperated with the legal process and posed no flight risk.

Strict Bond Conditions

The court set a series of stringent conditions for Verduzco’s release on bond, including:

  • Prohibition from possessing firearms.
  • Mandatory employment or active job search.
  • Required mental health treatment.
  • No contact with the victim or her family.
  • Restrictions on excessive alcohol consumption.

Additionally, the court barred Verduzco from areas frequented by minors, such as schools or parks, and required him to get prior approval for contact with individuals under 18. He is also subject to home detention, except for work, church, or mental health treatment.

Verduzco agreed to all conditions in court.

What’s Next?

No date has been set for Verduzco’s next court appearance. The case continues to draw attention due to the severity of the allegations and their implications for law enforcement accountability.
