The Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office has officially identified the victim of a fatal car accident near Corpus Christi International Airport. The crash, which occurred over the weekend, claimed the life of 45-year-old Joshua Romanczyk.
Early Morning Crash Near Agnes Street
According to Senior Officer Jennifer Collier, the Corpus Christi Police Department (CCPD) was alerted to the fatal car accident around 2:12 a.m. on Saturday, October 12. The alert came from an automated GPS device activation system in the vehicle. Similar to OnStar used in Chevy vehicles, these systems are designed to call emergency services when a collision occurs. The coordinates provided by the system led officers to the 800 block of Agnes Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, CCPD officers and Corpus Christi firefighters discovered a gray pickup truck in a single-vehicle accident. The driver, later identified as Romanczyk, was trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters’ Swift Response
Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) personnel quickly worked to free the driver from the wreckage. After successfully removing Romanczyk, he was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Tragically, despite the efforts of the medical team, Romanczyk succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Investigation Continues into Cause of Crash
The accident occurred near Agnes Road (Highway 44) and Manning Road. According to investigators from the CCPD Traffic Unit, Romanczyk was traveling northbound on Agnes Street at the crash. His truck veered off the roadway for unclear reasons, flipped over, and landed on its side.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to Romanczyk losing control of the vehicle. At this stage, it remains unclear whether speed, weather conditions, or other factors played a role in the crash.
Community Response
This tragic accident has left the community in mourning, and Romanczyk’s friends and family are grappling with the sudden loss. As the investigation progresses, residents are urged to remain cautious while driving, especially in the early morning hours when visibility and conditions can be challenging.
