Foundation to Support Fallen Officer’s Family

Foundation Support

In a heartwarming gesture of support, the family of Officer Kyle Hicks of the Corpus Christi Police Department is receiving a significant gift from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a national nonprofit organization deeply rooted in the legacy of the 9/11 tragedy.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation: A Legacy of Giving

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation emerged in the aftermath of September 11, 2001, when the United States faced one of its darkest hours. Many police officers and firefighters sacrificed that day, inspiring the Foundation’s mission. The organization commits to providing mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders, veterans, and Gold Star families. They also construct specially adapted smart homes for severely injured veterans and first responders, ensuring they can live independently despite injuries.

A Generous Gift for the Hicks Family

This time, the Foundation’s generosity extends to the family of Officer Kyle Hicks, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has announced that it will fully pay off the mortgage on the Hicks family home. This decision ensures that Hicks’ wife, Cassandra, and their four children can continue to live in their home without the burden of future mortgage payments, providing them with much-needed stability and security.

Tragic Loss of a Dedicated Officer

Officer Hicks responded to a domestic disturbance call in the early hours of April 20 when someone fatally shot him. He succumbed to his injuries four days later at Bay Area Hospital. In a final act of heroism, Officer Hicks donated his organs, potentially saving up to eight lives. His commitment to serving others persisted even in his final moments.

Community and Foundation Honor Hicks’ Sacrifice

To honor Officer Hicks’ bravery and dedication, a celebration of life is scheduled. This meaningful event will take place at 1 p.m. this Tuesday at the First Baptist Church on 3115 Ocean Drive. Additionally, officials from the Tunnel to Towers Foundation have confirmed that they have informed the Hicks family about the significant gift of the paid-off home. Furthermore, this generous gesture by the Foundation aims to alleviate some of the financial pressures the bereaved family faces, allowing them to fully own their family home—a place rich with memories of their times with Officer Hicks.

Upholding the Sacrifice of First Responders

The Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Frank Siller, highlighted his organization’s dedication to supporting families like the Hicks’. “Every day, America’s first responders answer calls for help without knowing what awaits them. Officer Hicks answered a call for help – and it cost him his life,” Siller stated. Moreover, he emphasized that the Foundation is honored to ensure that Cassandra and their children can remain in the home they shared, thereby preserving the memory and sacrifice of Officer Hicks.

The actions of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation underscore a profound respect and gratitude for those who put their lives on the line to ensure the safety of others. By stepping in to support the Hicks family, they not only honor Officer Hicks’ memory but also remind us of the ongoing needs of families who have suffered similar heartbreaking losses.
